2 day trips from Rome

My wife and I are staying in Rome for a week and want to make a one day trip back and forth to Venice and another one day trip back and forth to Florence on a different day. I'm wondering if a eurail pass is our best bet to accomplish this. It looks as though it is much cheaper than booking separately. What are some of the other benefits to the pass? Does it include bus rides at all? Also, it looks as though we could use the pass to take the high speed train to Venice, is this correct? I see there is a reservation fee for rail pass holders, does using a railpass put you in first or second class? Please let me know what is our best bet for two single day trips to Florence and back to Rome in one day and another day from Venice and back to rome same day. We are here until the 19th and our days to go to each are flexible.

I'm looking to go from Rome to Naples and then back. I'm getting the ticket to be at £20 one way. That is a normal fare. Can I buy this ticket on the day itself at the station. Will it be the same price?
I'm assuming that it'll just give me more flexibility that if i'm buying normal fare ticket, then I may as well buy it at the station.
