First I am positive the answer wasn't a flat "no", if you called in or emailed we always explain the fare rules you have purchased and the reason we are unable to cancel, Second, the fare rules are not Italiarails, we are a Vendor for Trenitalia, we do not set the rates nor do we set the fare rules, they are set by the train line itself. The fare rules are also governed by the UIC The International Union of Railways.
When you purchased your tickets, through out the whole process you had the choice to choose a refundable fare or to choose a lesser fare with stricter rules. The economy or super economy fares were the less expensive choice but the fare also has the strictest rules governing their cancelation.
You knew through out the whole process what the rules were, it is not Italiarails fault that you now have to cancel your trip nor is it Trenitalia's.
Hopefuly you have purchased travel insurance to protect you from any unforseen circumstance that prevents you from traveling since you chose to book non refundable fares and may collect your refund from the insurance. Should you need any paperwork from us to prove the fare is not refundable I would be happy to assist and provide you with what ever you need to proceeed with your claim
