You will need a reservation on the train from Rome>Venice, Venice>Florence, Pisa>Rome, Rome>Florence, Florence>Rome. The only train that is a regional train, not requiring or including the seat reservation is the Florence>Pisa train. For all the trains where there are seat reservations included you will use the confirmation we send you to show the conductor to board the train. The regional train from Florence>Pisa you will input the PNR we send you into the ticket kiosk at the station in Florence, and receive a paper ticket to board the train.
As for missing a train, it would depend on the fare base you choose whether or not you can change the ticket for a later train. If you choose the saver fare, that is not changeable at all. The normal fare is only changeable prior to travel date. The flexible fare is the only fare that is changeable up to an hour or so after the original trains departure time.
